In Brazil, ter are more than 35 thousand species of butterflies, and in Campos do Jordão you can live the motion of walking among them, in this butterfly house “Flores que Voam”, located on the way to Horto Florestal, in a farm that has an environment preservation area of 10 thousand square meter.
The project, delivered by the businesswoman Sandra Gatta, came up after a visit to the Art Museum of Porto Rico, when she found a Butterfly House and decided to create one in Brazil, following 3 guidelines: environmental education, leisure and environmental awareness.
In an area of 500 square meters, the Butterfly House Flores que Voam was opened in 2007, reuniting 35 species that follow the annual circles Spring-Summer and Fall-Winter, within a proper place for their development, reuniting native and exotic plants that offer alimentation and proper for the accommodation of the eggs, without the intervention of their main predators: spiders, ants, rats and geckos (or lizards).
During the ride, it is possible to contemplate the fly, the mating, and even observe some butterflies laying theirs eggs, that when they grow up and turn into worms their are maintained in the “Creation House” for the better development and strengthening the intention of this project, that is to maintain 20% of the species to admire, while the others are free for the maintaining of the environment around the Butterfly House and to balance the fauna and the flora in Campos do Jordão.
But before the visitants enter the butterflies house to experience and walk through the species, you will watch a video that presents the metamorphosis phases, the importance of the butterfly to the nature, what is the part of the Butterfly House and some orientations for the following visit.
The visits must be coming from 11h to 15h, and only in sunny days, as the butterflies can only fly with the presence of sun, which is their main source of strength, which allows the species to flutter. The visits must be accompanied by monitors, that will present the variety of metamorphosis phases of the butterflies, since the egg until the ” imago”, which is the grown butterfly.
